This involved a breif recount of all matches of season 2013/14 followed by the 3, 2 and 1 votes adjudged by opposition captains and senoir SCC officials. It was an evening full of anticipation as all except the McIntyre grade went all the way down to the last round with three or more possible winners. By popular demand I’m resending an article from a previous newsletter…..
To finish off I just want to share a little xmas story.
The past few xmases I have been given a Jamie Oliver recipe book, which is great. His recipes are easy to follow, a little funky and tasty..I like it. The recipe books sit in the kitchen ready to use at any time. You’re thinking what has this got to do with cricket?? A recipe for a tasty meal is a constant, ingredients prepared in a certain way, each time you are guaranteed the same result every time you follow it to the letter. Same in cricket!!! Follow the same principles each time during the season and the same result will occur.
Lets think about a recipe for success for a cricket team.
Do I need to go on?
I learned the recipe for success from former leaders of our club including my first A Grade Captain Max Harding(1981), Richard Lee and Neil White. The current leaders of our club have all tasted success and know the recipe for success. Jason, Brad and John Marshall have all played in many premiership winning teams, are all familiar with the recipe for success and of what success tastes like.
If you want to taste success yourself all you have to do is follow the recipe, it’s up to you.

The Sunbury Cricket Club Executive have decided to support the initiative by Cricket Victoria for all SCC senior grades competing this week to wear black arm bands as a mark of respect for the tragic circumstances during the week at Tyabb Cricket Club and to recognise the efforts to address domestic violence and related mental health problems in the community.

Message from Cricket Victoria Chief Executive Officer Tony Dodemaide:
Cricket Victoria will call on its members to show their support to the family and friends of Luke Batty and the Tyabb Cricket Club on the weekend by wearing black arm bands as a mark of respect.
Earlier this week, the cricket community lost one of its youngest members following the tragic death of the 11-year-old.
Cricket Victoria Chief Executive Officer Tony Dodemaide said he was heartened by the decision of the Australian Test team to wear black arm bands in South Africa overnight and encouraged the remainder of the cricket community to do likewise in their next fixtures.
“We are all shocked and saddened by the tragic circumstances that unfolded in Tyabb this week,” Mr Dodemaide said.
“We believe that this request is a fitting tribute to the memory of Luke Batty and a sign of respect to the Tyabb Cricket Club.”
Supported by Vicsport, the peak body representing Victoria’s sport and active recreation sector, the broader sporting community will also be encouraged to participate.
“The black arm bands will not only signify support for those directly affected by the dreadful incident in Tyabb, but will also show the sporting community’s recognition and support of efforts to address domestic violence and related mental health problems in the community,” Vicsport Chief Executive Officer Mark McAllion said.
The Commonwealth Bank VicSpirit will wear black arm bands in the WNCL Final against New South Wales at North Sydney Oval on Sunday.
Those experiencing issues related to domestic violence and mental health are strongly encouraged to contact Lifeline on 13 11 14.
*Individual clubs should make case-by-case decisions as to whether this request extends to junior teams and participants, particularly those under 16 year old. Appropriate age levels should be taken into account with any decision to participate by wearing black arm bands.

To GDCA Club Secretaries,
Due to the today’s forecast of 40ᵒC, the GDCA Executive has made the decision to abandon ALL senior matches.
Junior matches will be played. Teams are encouraged to start and finish their matches earlier if possible. Matches are to finish by 11.30am at the latest. Extra drinks breaks should be taken and temperatures monitored throughout the morning as well as the health and safety of players, umpires and spectators. Matches should be abandoned if the weather is considered to be extreme.

From GDCA:
Hi there all. please forward this email to your junior coaches/team managers.
firstly – with hot weather forecast this saturday, i draw your attention to by-law B9:
B9: Heat Policy: The GDCA Junior Sub-Committee will adopt the heat policy issued by Cricket Victoria and this policy will be applied to all grades. The GDCA Sub-Committee will publish on the GDCA website http://gdca.vic.cricket.com.au by 8pm on the Friday night prior to matches if they are to be cancelled due to forecast adverse weather conditions.
these Cricket Vic guidelines are available http://www.cricketvictoria.com.au/files/pages/laws-and-policies/Cricket_Victoria_Extreme_Heat_Guidelines.pdf
given that we are a morning competition, it is likely that play will still be allowed assuming ,matches are not cancelled – please pay special attention to players’ sun-protection (including hats) and hydration – scheduling frequent short drink breaks.
i would urge all games/Day 1 to be completed by 11.30am at the latest, even if this means starting matches earlier, and even if the 44 over innings is not completed.
For further details contact your SCC Coach or Club Secretary.
To GDCA Club Secretaries,
At present, the projected forecast for this Saturday is for a hot 40 degrees.
The following Rule 10.4A explains the procedure for abandoning matches should this projected forecast hold until Saturday:-
Extreme Heat: If on the day of scheduled play, the forecast temperature by the Bureau of Meteorology (as at Melbourne Airport) is 38 degrees Celsius or above, the GDCA Executive shall meet/discuss on the morning the merits of playing or abandoning senior matches for the day. Factors such as relative humidity, pollution levels, wind, high fire danger, expected change in weather during the course of the days play and ground conditions shall be taken into account when determining the safety of players, umpires, scorers, officials and spectators. Advice may be sought from third parties in making this decision.
A decision must be made by 10am and will be conveyed to all participants through the GDCA website at www.gdca.vic.cricket.com.au if the decision is to abandon the day’s play. It is the responsibility of all clubs and umpires to monitor the site before commencement of play. If the decision is to abandon play, this means all matches shall be abandoned.
If play is abandoned on the first day of a two day match, then the match shall revert to a one day game the following week as per Rule 16.6. If play is abandoned on the second day of a two day match, providing there has not already been a first innings result, the match shall be declared a draw. The same shall apply for scheduled one day matches.
Please ensure you inform your players of the possibility that this Saturday’s matches may be cancelled due to extreme heat and to monitor the GDCA website on Saturday morning should a decision be made to do so.

Rob McIntyre
