blue logo

Press release 10 March 2015

DYLAN LANDT  to compete for School Sport Victoria Team Vic

Sunbury Cricket Club player and Maribyrnong College student Dylan Landt has been selected in the School Sport Victoria Team Vic 15 Years & Under State Cricket Team competing in the School Sport Australia Australian National Cricket Championships.

Dylan was identified during the 2014 Cricket Victoria Under 14 Pathways Championships which led to him being invited to be part of an initial squad of 64 students from school across Victoria. Following practice sessions and trial games right through until February 2015, Dylan Landt was selected in the final team of 13.

Many past School Sport Victoria cricketers have gone on to compete at State, International and Test level, including current players Aaron Finch, Glenn Maxwell, Peter Hansscomb, Alex Keath and Ashton Agar.

So here’s hoping that Dylan and their Victorian teammates can achieve their personal goals at a national level and that Dylan may be representing Australia in the years to come.

James Wilson Memorial T20 game Sunbury CC v Sunshine United CC this Sunday

blue logo

James Wilson Memorial T20 game

Sunbury CC v Sunshine United CC

This Sunday, 8th February 2015: 11 am to 4 pm

Clarke Oval, Riddell Road  Sunbury

In honour of James Wilson, the cricket clubs that were a big part of his life have joined together to create a day whereby both family, friends and teammates can get together doing something Jim loved.

The T20 match will be played between James former club where he played juniors and learned to love the game, Sunbury CC and his current club Sunshine United CC. The game will be played on James first home ground, the Clarke Oval, Sunbury.

This match will be played in honour of and to celebrate James life, his life in cricket and to share time with his family, friends and current and former team mates. We would also  like to see all those who simply love the game of cricket come down and spend a few hours and enjoy the entertainment and activities.

BBQ and drinks will be on throughout the day and there will be some games to help keep all the little ones occupied 🙂

Any help on the day is welcome, hope to see everyone there!

SCC Father and son make centuries in same innings

blue logo

Exert from Star Weekly by Tara Murray…….

Sunbury Cricket Club’s Brendan Doyle told son Nathan he would return to the sport when the boy was old enough to play senior cricket.

And on Saturday, after a couple of games together earlier in the season in the Gisborne and District G-grade competition, they played a game they’ll never forget … both made centuries.

“I always said that when he got to the point of playing senior cricket, I would play again,” Brendan said.

Nathan, 14, joined his father at the crease against Sunbury United when the score was 3-64.

“We were chasing 190 against the second-top side and we’d lost outright the week before,” Brendan said.

“There was a fair bit of pressure on the side. We [he and Nathan] set the target of getting to the next drinks break.

“We got to 90 and then the tea break. Each session we set a new goal.  We helped each other out there and he spoke to me when I played loose shots.”

The pair passed the score of 190 to get the six points and Brendan scored his second century of the season.

He departed for 142 in what was meant to be the last over of the day, after a partnership of 198.

“We had decided stumps was going to be at 5.30pm even though there was 10 overs to go,” Brendan said.

“I got out on the second ball of the over. From the last ball of the over Nathan hit a six to go to 95. Credit to Sunbury United, they kept playing to give him the opportunity to score his 100.”

Brendan said there were some pretty nervous moments watching Nathan trying to get the runs needed to get his maiden century.

“It took him three overs to get them, and I have never been so nervous in my life,” he said “It’s a very proud moment..”

Brendan said the reaction from Sunbury had been massive. “I’m led to believe it’s the first time it’s happened at the club and possibly the competition,” he said.

“Everyone was congratulating us, at the club and on social media. It’s unbelievable.”
