Phil Sewell Golf Day 26 April 2013
The call went out to the Sunbury sporting community in response to an unfortunate incident where Phil Sewell was tragically hit by a car leaving him with life threatening injuries. Presently Phil is slowly recovering from his injuries and is experiencing complications but has a positive long term outlook. Current day members and former team mates of Phil from both Sunbury Cricket Club and Sunbury Football Club joined forces together with family and friends to hold a fund raising day to help Phil through this difficult time.
Goonawarra Golf Club offered the use of their course and bbq facilities to host a fund raising event. A 4 member per team Ambrose competition with a total of 14 teams teed off in pleasant conditions and in good humour. There was a good spread of golfers of all levels and ages, all willing participants ready to contribute to this worthy cause.
Outright winners on the day : Patty Morganti, Dean Surkitt, Rhino and Peter Hickey
Longest drive: Darryl Taylor    Nearest the pin: Ryan Charity
Fund raising activities on the day included a drinks truck delivering drinks to thirsty golfers during their round. Fines were imposed for misdemeanors such as air swings, not making the ladies tee, hitting a ball in the water and falling into a bunker! (nice one Uma) Â Â At the club house a bbq was on offer, a raffle and silent auction was held. Contributions through the green fees and donations for the raffles and auctions all combined to make the day a huge success.
Phil’s father Greg Sewell addressed the gathering and expressed many thanks on behalf of Phil and his family for the support as he continues his recovery. Many thanks also go to the organising committee and those who helped out on the day and also to the management and staff of Goonawarra Golf Club for their assistance and use of facilities.
