Trivia night Saturday 16th November from 7.30pm

at Sunbury Bowling Club

Tables need to be finalised by the 13th of November…so hurry there is a limit on the number of tables.

Lets really get behind our first official function at our new home, Sunbury Bowling Club. It’s a great chance to bring our partners and freinds together with our cricketing team mates for a night of trivia and entertainment. There will be prizes for the best (and worst) teams, raffles and games to play.

We welcome parents of our junior players as well, this is a full club function and a major fund raiser for the year so we can continue to improve facilities and provide equipment.

So get on the phone and organise your table of eight (8) players, the more mixed the age group and expertise the better. We want to keep things interesting so there will be a limit of three (3) cricketers per table. My tip is to invite a couple of lawn bowlers, it might cost you a couple of ginger beers but they will help you will get those tricky questions.

Pick up the phone get on FB or tweet till your thumbs hurt and grab seven of your freinds for a fun night out.  If you are a few short of a full table let us know we may be able to join you with others with the same problem.

Tickets are on sale through the club from:

  • Scotty Yardley   0418 564 462
  • Travis Botten     0417 101 595
  • Shayne Lewis     0402 547 002

Junior Cricket – GDCA representative  selection trials

Copy of email from:

Greg Rowles,  Junior Coordinator  Gisborne & District Cricket Association M:  0418170577

Hi all – GDCA representative  selection trials will be held this month.

i would appreciate you communicate  this information to your coaches – to invite past members of the GDCA  representative squads, and prospective players from their teams who they believe  have an ability to compete at this level of cricket. It is essential that  someone from each club sends me with a list of all players the club has  nominated for each age level, prior to the selection trial  date.

an important note is that the  times for the u12 and u14 trials has changed from the Junior Coordinators report  tabled at the meeting tonight.

Under 16 age will be having  an initial  training and get together on 13 October 2013, 10 AM, at Tony Clarke Oval,  Macedon.  All squad members from last season, and Pathways players  are invited to attend. If you have suggestions of other players who may be of a suitable skill level  to participate in Representative Cricket, please contact me by return email. i  am aware of an additional player nominated from each of Sunbury, Gisborne and  Wallan CC.

For all the other age  levels:

Sunday, 20 and 27 October:   under 13’s Langama Park – Sunbury United,  Mitchells Lane, 9am – 2pm

Sunday, 27 October:     under 12’s  Langama Park –  Sunbury United, Mitchells Lane, 9.30pm – 1.00pm

               under 14’s Langama Park – Sunbury United,  Mitchells Lane, 1.30pm – 5.00pm

               under 15’s Rupertswood Ovals –  Salesian College, Sunbury, 10am – 2.30pm

Should weather intervene,  reserve dates will be organised.

We ask that nominations be limited to  players that coaches feel are of an appropriate ability.

Players attending the under  12/13/14/15 trials are required to have the  following:

·          A completed  GDCA junior selection trials profile form

·          Cricket gear  including bat, pads, gloves, helmets, protectors, and sun hat. If the player is  the main wicket-keeper for his team, please bring wicket-keeping  gloves.

·          Practice ball  in good condition for the player’s own use.

·          Club shirt or  white shirt, and tracksuit pants. (No GDCA Rep shirts)

·          water bottle  (and a snack, and sunscreen)

Please ensure that all your nominated  players are informed of those requirements.

The fixtures for the GDCA junior  representative program matches are available for viewing on the GDCA website at  gdca.vic.cricket.com.au. Players who are not able to commit to attending  the matches may attend selection trials, but must inform their age level  coach, or GDCA Junior Coordinator.

Coaches are still to be appointed for  the under 12 and under 14 teams, and interested persons should contact the GDCA  Junior Coordinator as soon as possible.

Team managers are required for all  teams.

Please contact me for further  information.

Training and practice match

Hi All,

Well we have gotten off to a great start with plenty of numbers at training but hey we can always do with more. So get the word out that we have started training on Tuesdays and Thursdays kicking of at 5 o’clock. Make sure you get down and introduce yourself to Jason Elliott if you don’t already know him. It has been great to see some new drills and exercises at training, plus some of the tricks that Paddy Tyler has picked up playing overseas during the winter. Great work fellas.

Also under 16’s training starts on Wednesday 21st of September at 4:30 so all the future test stars around town make sure you are there.

Now the seniors are having a practice match against the Camerae Tipans in Thomastown on Sunday 25th of September so if you want a hit before the season commences this is an excellent opportunity but you’ll need to get down to training next Tuesday to find out the details. We will be taking approx 15 players across and will be rotating players throughout the day based on their specialty.

Look forward to seeing around the club soon,

DT

Introduction to the 2011/12 Junior Cricket Season

Hi everyone

Yes it is the middle of football season but cricket season is rapidly approaching, with the league (GDCA) Annual General Meeting in July.

In the off season Sunbury Cricket Club has been very busy and have elected a new committee which has a major focus of rebuilding the cricket club.

 The new committee is:

 President:                                   Scott Yardley

Secretary:                                   David Thomas

Treasurer:                                   Jim Pearson

Senior Vice President:                 Dominic Douglas

Junior Vice President:                  Adam Kirk

Committee Member:                    Brent McDougall

Committee Member:                    Patrick Tyler

One of the main objectives of the committee is for the club to be more inclusive to our juniors and the families of players (both senior and junior).  To this end the committee includes past or present junior coaches Dom Douglas and I as well as Paddy Tyler, who plans to coach juniors this season.  In addition Terry Landt has kindly agreed to attend committee meetings and act as a conduit between junior players/ parents and the committee and to assist with organisation of family friendly activities throughout the season.

The committee recognises that it is through the juniors that the ongoing viability and strength of the club is maintained.

As always we welcome any parent or friend of junior players to take an active part in the club and would appreciate anyone volunteering to assist in a coaching or administration role as the season gets closer.  You do not have to have any experience as we will guide you and assist wherever possible.

Also we are actively seeking sponsorship for the club so if you have a business (or your employer might be interested) we are offering sponsorship packages which include advertising space on our website, letter heads and club shirts as well as many minor sponsorship arrangements.  Sponsorship assists in keeping registration fees to a minimum so if you can help please do.

The club has a new web site at www.sunburycc.wordpress.com and future notices will be published there. While the site is still in development, I recommend you take a tour of the web site and see where the club is headed.  I hope that you will all be back next season to be a part of it.

If you have any queries, wish to volunteer or would like to discuss sponsorship, please give me a call on 9740 5975 or 0402 292 371.

Regards

Jim Pearson
