Sunbury finish top of Mc’s ladder – we are off to the finals!

In a massive weekend of cricket for Sunbury followed by two great wins from our U14 and U16 teams, our 1st XI win outright against a hapless St. Anthony’s, our 3rd XI clinch a spot in the finals doing the same thing.

Unfortunately our 4th XI was on the other end just missing out on the four by percentage as Ashfield win outright against Riddell and handing United ten points in the process.

All eyes are now looking toward this weekends matches.

At Clarke Oval,  Sunbury 1st XI host Woodend in the winner take all McIntyre Cup semi-final. Sunbury will start as firm favourites but history tells us that once the battle commences it’s even money.

SCC’s all conquering U14 team will host Gisborne Redbacks in the morning also at Clarke Oval in the Grand Final which will be a big thrill for these guys playing on the premier ground in the district in front of a crowd of Royal Blue.

Dom Douglas’s 3rd XI travel to Langama Park to battle against the highly fancied East Sunbury XI in the E Grade semi-final. Anything can happen in these matches, if our guys can get a couple of early wickets the pressure will be on.

SCC’s U16′s will visit Rupertswood in the consolation Grand Final. There are some real stars of the future representing our club in this seasons U16′s as shown by the majority of the team also performing well in the senior 3rd and 4th XI’s.

So get right behind our teams this Saturday and Sunday, there is no reason why you can’t see some of all the 4 games and give our team the support they deserve. There really is no excuse, so don’t worry about the lawns, that can be mowed in April, call a plumber to fix the leaky tap and washing the car is a waste of time, it’s going to rain mid week anyway.

Grab your club shirt and cap and join the Royal Blue army!

Senior Cricket  – Important dates Season 2013/14  (V2)

To inform senior members of a few important dates of club functions as we enter the run towards the finals.

Vote Count Night  at Sunbury Indoor Cricket Centre Saturday, 8th March 2014 (the night after the last h/a fixture) from 7.30pm to late.

End of season trip Weekend 12th of April 2014, destination Echuca. Get together with your mates and sort out who you are able to share a room with. See Heath Boffey for bookings.

Presentation night  at Sunbury Bowling Club Thursday, 24th April 2014. (night before Anzac day) Dress: Red carpet..tie and jacket.  Dinner : 2 course meal. Special guest host, entertainment and cost TBC.

By popular demand I’m resending an article from a previous newsletter…..

To finish off I just want to share a little xmas story.

The past few xmases I have been given a Jamie Oliver recipe book, which is great.  His recipes are easy to follow, a little funky and tasty..I like it. The recipe books sit in the kitchen ready to use at any time. You’re thinking what has this got to do with cricket??  A recipe for a tasty meal is a constant, ingredients prepared in a certain way, each time you are guaranteed the same result every time you follow it to the letter. Same in cricket!!! Follow the same principles each time during the season and the same result will occur.

Lets think about a recipe for success for a cricket team.

• A pre-season training program covering all elements, batting, bowling and fielding.
• Listening and taking on board tips from the coaches and experienced players.
• Thinking about where you need to improve your game. Set yourself goals e.g. number of total runs / wickets per season, go up a grade, makes the finals, win a flag!
• Make a committment, make sacrifices and maybe do a little extra training with your mates or by doing a little extra fitness work.
• Every now and then help out around the club and on game day by setting up or packing away.
• Play with a mindset of following team plans, your role in the team or whats required in the situation of the game.
• Practice regularly, work towards improving your game and be a good team-mate and clubman.
• Prepare the night before, focus on game day, be positive, be confident and play to win!
• Enjoy being around the club, go to club functions, go to country week with a few mates and most of all enjoy your self, have a laugh.

Do I need to go on?

I learned the recipe for success from former leaders of our club including my first A Grade Captain Max Harding(1981),  Richard Lee and  Neil White. The current leaders of our club have all tasted success and know the recipe for success. Jason, Brad and John Marshall have all played in many premiership winning teams, are all familiar with the recipe for success and of what success tastes like.

If you want to taste success yourself all you have to do is follow the recipe, it’s up to you.

Sunbury Cricket Club – The Comedy Club night

22nd February 2014

For great nights entertainment and fun night out, SCC are going to The Comedy Club.  This function is open to all members of Sunbury Cricket Club including parents of Junior players. There are only a limited number of seats available so get in quick.

No need to worry about who is going to drive, just jump on the bus, sit back and  a let one of our sponsors Sunbury Coaches take us in comfort. The evening consists of 3 comedy acts and a 3 coarse meal. This is an adult entertainment night so you must be over 18 years of age to attend.

Sunbury Cricket Club Past Players Day season 2013/14.

All Past Players are invited to watch the 2nd day of the “top of the McIntyre grade” clash between Sunbury and Riddell, Saturday 22nd February 2014 and to join the club during the normal after match activities with one big change, now we are based at the Sunbury Bowling Club. Please send the message out to all your SCC team mates.

So come along watch the our current team of future stars led by Capt/Coach Jason McGann, check out the Bowling club facilities while reliving past glories.
