Sunbury Roar get behind Jessy Carroll, East Sunbury CC

As some of you may know, East Sunbury CC Senior Coach Jessy Carroll is in a bit of a bad way and as part of the wider sporting community Sunbury Roar are looking at doing our part to help Jessy in what ever way we can.

The vital treatment that Jessy needs is not cheap so we are looking at having a pizza night next Saturday night to raise some much needed funds. It will be $10 a head for the pizzas with any money raised going to Jesse.

We will be having match round ups, beers and pizza, a raffle and maybe a couple of games. Bring some gold coins and your friends to help a young guy get through a hard time.

If you cannot make it and wish to donate please contact us at the club.

Sunday one dayers for Sunbury Roar Mc’s and 2’s

Sunday one dayers for Sunbury Roar Mc’s and 2’s

It is a big weekend of cricket in the GDCA with one day matches scheduled for Sunday 5th February.

Sunbury Roar finish off their match against Riddell  Bombers tomorrow at Clarke Oval. After winning the toss and batting last week Sunbury was rolled out for their lowest score in recent memory. Riddell has already finished day one with first inning points.

Riddell are expected to declare before play commences, if not at least in the first hour, send our team back out bat with the expectation of another collapse in a push for outright points.

Simply put, with another days play ahead this is a chance for our team to put all that behind them and salvage some pride in the best possible way. The key will be for our top order to dig in, build partnerships and bat responsibly against the talented Riddell attack. Time to stand up fellas.

Sunday’s one day fixture will be a local derby when Roar play host to Rupertswood at Clarke Oval. This promises to be an entertaining day of cricket as Rupertswood boast an attacking batting line up capable of anything on their day.

Sunbury Roar 2nd XI travel to Woodend on Saturday for day two of their encounter. Roar are chasing 314 so all eyes will be on big innings specialists Sam Fisher and Corey Beatty. Roar are keen to maintain there position in the top four, this match could go down to the wire.

On Sunday Roar 2nd XI travel to the scenic Blackwood Reserve for their one day fixture. Blackwood have been tough to beat on their track over the years so good luck to our team.

Sunbury Roar 3rds finish off their match against Bacchus Marsh Bulls at Boardman #2. This will prove to be a tough contest as our team managed only 143. After being 5/41 youngsters Mitch Boyd and Brock Landt battled hard to achieve a competitive total. BM start the run chase at 0/16.

In Club Grade South Roar 4ths finished day one having amassed 6/358. Stars with the bat were Shayne Lewis posting a career high of 161 and Adam Kirk just missing the milestone with 91. Cameos by Josh Goater and Mike Veitch also finished the day off in positive fashion. Tomorrow the young bowling attack need to put the ball in the right areas to secure the points.

Sunbury Roar 3rds and 4ths have Sunday off.

James Wilson Memorial T20 game

Sunbury CC v Sunshine United CC

This Sunday, January 22nd, 2017 from 12 midday

Clarke Oval, Riddell Road  Sunbury

This will now be The 3rd game between Sunbury Cricket club and Sunshine United Cricket Club honouring the memory of our little mate, James Wilson.

James played cricket for both clubs during his short career playing juniors and his first senior games with Sunbury CC before making the move on to playing turf cricket and joining Sunshine United CC.

The last two years have be tough without James in our lives but the coming together of his 2 cricketing clubs to celebrate his life with his family and friends has been nothing but a positive day in remembering James with all those who knew and loved him the most.

His family will be at the game once again and look forward to seeing all those people who had an influence on the young man who we all came to know and love.

This year we are back in Sunbury and will host Sunshine at Clarke oval. Our new rooms and pavilion have been completed and we look forward to showing them off and joint the Sunshine family on the balcony for a few beers after the game has finished.

We will be organising food and kids entertainment such as a Jumping Castle, as well as the all important drinks and we hope the sun will be shining on what will be another great day.

Please invite family and friends that would love to share some fun and laughs with James family.

Any questions or queries please don’t hesitate to give me a call or shoot me a message.

Much love,
Kirky

Sunbury Roar T20 campaign ends

  crop2

Unfortunately Sunbury Roar went down to Riddell Bombers  in the Grand Final of the GDCA Kookaburra T20 Shield on Tuesday night. After posting an impressive total Riddell took early wickets making the task difficult for our team in the failing light. Winners of the GDCA T20  title go on to play in country Victoria zonal matches. As last seasons GDCA T20 competition winners Riddell had already progressed to the next round of zonal matches last week by defeating Nathalia.

This week our McIntyre XI travel to play in a 40 over one-dayer in Bacchus Marsh on Saturday and our 2nd XI host new comers to the GDCA, Kyneton for the first time at Clarke Oval.

Sunbury Roar into T20 Grand Final!

  crop2

Sunbury Roar travel to Riddell to play the Bombers in the Grand Final of the GDCA Kookaburra T20 Shield on Tuesday night December 13th, starting at 5.45pm.

Recent matches between these two teams have been close encounters so be sure of a tight contest. Jason McGann and Justin Nelson dominated the game with the bat to set up victory against Gisborne Dragons last week. Apo again proved his worth with plenty of energy and tight bowling towards the end of the Dragons innings.

Riddell Bombers will start as favourite in the final being last seasons champions. We need as many royal blue shirts as we can get to travel up the road and support T20 Captain  Steve Treweek and our Sunbury Roar team.

In round 3 of the  GDCA Junior T20 on Wednesday night, December 14th,  Sunbury Roar U17’s have a bye while Sunbury Roar U15’s host East Sunbury Thunder at Boardman Oval #2,  play starts at 5.30pm sharp.
