Roar announce Coaching Panel for 2020-21

Sunbury Cricket Club is thrilled to announce additional Senior cricket appointments for Season 2020/21. Jay King after an excellent inaugural season with the Roar has been promoted to 1st XI Vice-Captain and Scott Yardley has recruited a solid and experienced senior cricket coaching panel.

Jay King is used to playing in a winning environment and came to our club fresh after tasting back to back GDCA McIntyre Cup success with Gisborne and is keen to bring professionalism learnt playing premier cricket. Jay prides himself in his on-field performance rising within the group with solid performances taking 28 wickets at 12.86 in his first season with the Roar. This season he is welcomed to the extended coaching panel as he has a keen interest in providing tuition to younger players. Sunbury CC are confident Jay will provide excellent support to Steve and Scotty throughout the season.

Scott Yardley and Brad Hunter

Former SCC senior Captain Coach Brad Hunter has been appointed Director of Cricket which is a new role within the club. Brad is a highly decorated player, former coach of SCC and VTCA premiership player/coach with Maribyrnong Park SMCC. He brings to the role a wealth of cricket knowledge and experience. The Director of Cricket oversees the overall cricket program and assists with being a conduit between the club executive committee and the coaching group. The role also involves management of turf cricket and assists with player issues.

Mick Corcoran is welcomed back to the club in an official capacity as Chairman of Selectors. Mick is a highly respected member of SCC, he was well known as a fine wicketkeeper batsman playing at the highest level of our club and was an inaugural SCC Hall of Fame inductee. He has served on the SCC Executive as Treasurer on several occasions, and in more recent years has Captained grade cricket with our club and been a keen cricket observer following his sons’ Kyle and Zac. Mick will work in closely with all grade Captains including working in with Scott, who he has shared a 30 year relationship with at the club.

Justin Nelson has again stood forward for the club, coming on board as Strength and Conditioning Coach. He has served the club well previously as senior Coach of the Roar and has had experience fulfilling other coaching roles during his time at Flemington. Justin is a keen fitness practitioner is an enthusiastic and popular member of our club and will provide excellent support to Scott and the coaching panel.

Sunbury CC are very proud of the achievements in all levels of senior cricket last season and look forward with anticipation having assembled an off-field team with the depth required to take our club even further forward.

Womens and Junior cricket coaching positions are still open to expressions of interest. For all enquiries please contact the club.

It has been recognised that this season presents many challenges for all clubs including the unknown nature of the fixture and possible restrictions due to the COVID-19 situation. We will keep all members posted of further appointments and the start to pre-season activities.

This is the perfect opportunity for experienced players looking toward a new challenge to make the change. We are the only cricket club in Sunbury and surrounding areas that can offer TURF cricket.
